My Career and Experience
On leaving school I worked initially in the voluntary care sector with the homeless, including jointly running a night shelter, and also working with young people. I worked in a children’s home, and for the Hampshire Probation Service. Attending Portsmouth Polytechnic (now the University) I completed social work training in 1986. I worked initially for four years as a practitioner with young offenders across, Eastleigh, Basingstoke, Andover and Winchester, before being promoted to run the Youth Justice Team covering Portsmouth and Havant.
In 1994 I returned to Southampton to manage specialist mental health, substance misuse, and mental health offending services before setting up and running for 10 years, on behalf of Health and Social Services, Southampton’s Mental Health Assertive Outreach Service. I also managed Mentally Disordered Offenders and Homeless Mental Health teams and set up and chaired the Southampton Law and Mental Health Group. I took voluntary redundancy in 2011 after a short period of work in safeguarding.
Since then, I have created and run an events company with son – see www.mattbundayevents.com. We have successfully organised, supported and produced many large scale events in and around the Southampton Area, including large outdoor productions and music festivals.
With many of these events, I have worked closely with the Police, ensuring the safety of the public and making sure that events legislation has been correctly followed.
Making good use of my extensive professional experience and knowledge, I have also gone on to become a Specialist Advisor with the Care Quality Commission, and an Associate Hospital Manager at an independent hospital.
